Abilene <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Texas Star Trading Co.<\/a><\/strong> celebrated twenty years in business in March. They marked the occasion by offering a twenty percent discount on any item with the image of a Texas flag.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Amarillo <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Chapterhouse Bookstore<\/a><\/strong> announced that they must delay their plans to move into a brick & mortar site. They will continue the search for a new space. They continue to fundraise in support of a permanent space<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Austin <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

To celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on April 27, the Austin Texas Book Trail<\/a><\/strong> served to highlight twenty-five participating independent bookstores in the greater Austin area including Alienated Majesty Books<\/a>, Austin Books & Comics<\/a>, Best Little Wine & Books<\/a>, Black Pearl Books<\/a>, The Book Burrow<\/a>, BookPeople<\/a>, BookWoman<\/a>, Curio Mrvosa<\/a>, Dragon\u2019s Lair Comics<\/a>, Em Dash Books<\/a>, First Light Books<\/a>, Lark & Owl Booksellers<\/a>, Libros Bookshop<\/a>, The Little Gay Shop<\/a>, Monkeywrench Books<\/a>, The Painted Porch Bookshop<\/a>, Pecantown Books & Brews<\/a>, Recycled Reads<\/a>, Resistencia Books<\/a>, Reverie Books<\/a>, South Congress Books<\/a>, Sunday Bookshop<\/a>, Time Being Books<\/a>, Tribe Comics & Games<\/a>, and Vintage Bookstore & Wine Bar<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Houston<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Houston indie bookstores are celebrating Independent Bookstore Day through April 30, 2024, with the first Houston Bookstore Crawl<\/a><\/strong>. Eighteen indie bookshops are participating with a special crawl tote bag, buttons, pins, a raffle, and more. Participating stores include Village Books<\/a>, Good Books in the Woods<\/a>, Buy the Book<\/a>, The Book Attic<\/a>, Copperfield\u2019s Books<\/a>, The Book Readers Venue<\/a>, Houston Book Warehouse<\/a>, Kaboom Books<\/a>, Blue Willow Bookshop<\/a>, Basket Books & Art<\/a>, Kindred Stories<\/a>, Brazos Bookstore<\/a>, Murder by the Book<\/a>, Gulf Coast Cosmos Comics<\/a>, CLASS Bookstore<\/a>, LIT Bookbar<\/a>, Candescent Books<\/a>, and LIT Java<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Oak Cliff <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2nd Annual Oak Cliff Book Crawl<\/a><\/strong> on April 27, 2024, will highlight Oak Cliff\u2019s five unique and spectacular bookstores with music, food, books, author events, and more. Participating stores include Whose Books<\/a>, The Wild Detectives<\/a>, Poets Bookshop<\/a>, Lucky Dog Books<\/a>, and Pan-African Connection<\/a>.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Richmond <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

LIT Bookbar<\/a><\/strong> opened on March 7, 2024. Modeled on a book club owner Jillian Reed joined during the pandemic, the store offers a variety of new book titles, programming, and cocktails. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Selma <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cibolo Chicks<\/a><\/strong> announced that they had closed as of February 16, 2024.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Texas Book Festival<\/a><\/strong> welcomed new Board of Directors Members: former Mayor of San Marcos\u202fDr. Daniel Guerrero; former TBF Board of Advisor\u202fAnna Herd; teacher, volunteer, and advocate\u202fAnnie Jacob; and recent President and CEO of\u202fMake-A-Wish Central & South Texas,\u202fAnn Jerome. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Texas Center for the Book<\/a><\/strong> announced its new Coordinator, Michele Chan Santos. She began her new position on March 1, 2024. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Gemini Ink<\/a><\/strong> announced that it is the recipient of the Library of America\u2019s Latino Poetry Initiative<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Houston Public Library<\/a><\/strong> has been named a finalist for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service<\/a> by the Institute of Museum and Library services. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Houston Public Library\u2019s Freed-Montrose Branch<\/strong> closed on March 28, 2024. After feedback, they developed a new plan to extend operations, and the library will reopen on Monday, April 15. A new library is under construction on California Street with an anticipated fall opening date.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Two Texas booksellers, Katy Lemieux with Talking Animal Books<\/a><\/strong> and Sherrele Goloversic with The Book Readers Venue<\/a><\/strong>, earned scholarships from the  American Booksellers Association<\/a> to attend the Children\u2019s Institute 2024 in New Orleans, LA. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The American Booksellers Association announced the James Patterson Bookseller Bonus Program<\/a><\/strong> Spring 2024 recipients, which include Merrilee Wilderson with BookPeople<\/a>, Audrey Kohler with BookWoman<\/a>, Keaton Patterson with Brazos Bookstore<\/a>, David Landry with CLASS Bookstore<\/a>, Brian Weiskopf with Interabang Books<\/a>, Christina Marroquin with Lark & Owl Booksellers<\/a>, Paul Taylor with Nowhere Bookshop<\/a>, Andrea Lisa O\u2019Brien with O\u2019Brien\u2019s Bookshop<\/a>, Sarah Forbau with Patchouli Joe\u2019s Books & Indulgences<\/a>, Kelsey Black with The Book Burrow<\/a>, and Stefani Kelley with The Book Nook<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
