Lineup, schedule for upcoming festival<\/p>\n

The <\/span><\/span><\/span>San Antonio Book Festival<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>(SABF) announced its 2021 author lineup and events schedule, which includes nearly two hundred local, regional, and national authors who will be participating in the festival, as well as an event new to San Antonio, Lit Crawl. This year\u2019s lineup includes nationally renowned authors such as <\/strong>Sandra Cisneros, Jeff VanderMeer, Nic Stone, Kristin Hannah, and more. The weekend of festivities will take place virtually April 9 through 11; registration is free at <\/span><\/span><\/span>sabookfestival.org\/online-edition<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

SABF is a free, family-friendly event that showcases both first-time and established, prominent writers, introducing attendees to new and well-known literary talents and connecting them with their favorite authors. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival will take place entirely online. The virtual festival will also allow for people outside of San Antonio to join in on the festivities. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFestivals and book events have had to adapt a lot over the last year, but we see this as a huge opportunity to bring more authors and content to book lovers,\u201d said Clay Smith, SABF\u2019s literary director. \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to be able to all meet up in person again, but we\u2019re so excited to be able to bring even more writers to readers and we\u2019re able to appeal to a wider audience with this platform.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

SABF brings together many award-winning authors from around the nation, including Walter Isaacson<\/strong>, author of The Code Breaker: Jennifer Doudna, Gene Editing, the Future of the Human Race<\/em>; Kristin Hannah<\/strong>, New York Times <\/em>bestselling author, will discuss her novel <\/span><\/span><\/span>The Four Winds<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a story set in Texas during the Great Depression; and Isabel Allende<\/strong>, known for her twenty-five bestselling books, will discuss The Soul of a Woman<\/em>. In addition, internationally acclaimed writer Sandra Cisneros<\/strong> will debut a new festival event, Sandra Cisneros Presents, where she introduces four of her favorite writers to festival audiences. Cisneros\u2019s long list of accolades include the Texas Medal of the Arts, a MacArthur Fellowship, and the National Medal of the Arts awarded to her by President Obama in 2016. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Additional nationally celebrated artists include New York Times<\/em> bestselling author Jeff VanderMeer<\/strong>, discussing his latest novel Hummingbird Salamander<\/em>; American writer of young adult literature Gary Paulsen<\/strong> will debut his memoir Gone to the Woods: Surviving a Lost Childhood<\/em>, a series of life-altering moments from his turbulent childhood as his own original survival story; Texas native, Harvard professor, and winner of sixteen book prizes Annette Gordon-Reed<\/strong> will speak about her new book, On Juneteenth<\/em> (look for the Lone Star Lit review this June); and young-adult author Adam Silvera<\/strong> joins the festival to discuss Infinity Reaper: Infinity Cycle 2<\/em>, a sequel to his previous New York Times<\/em> bestselling novel. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Guy Raz and Mindy Thomas<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong>, hosts of the NPR #1 kids podcast, Wow in the World<\/em>, will discuss their latest book Wow in the World: The How and Wow of the Human Body: From Your Tongue to Your Toes and All the Guts in Between<\/em>, a hilarious, fact-filled, and highly illustrated journey through the human body; Nic Stone<\/strong>, <\/span><\/span><\/span>a New York Times<\/em> best-selling author of young-adult fiction and middle-grade fiction,<\/span><\/span><\/span> will discuss her latest novel, Dear Justyce<\/em>; and poet Mart\u00edn Espada<\/strong>, author of Floaters: Poems<\/em>, will be in conversation with Luis Alberto Urrea<\/strong>, a member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame and best-selling author of seventeen books. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico<\/em>, which celebrates the women of early Texas and Mexico who refused to walk a traditional path, rights that wrong. The anthology embraces an expansive definition of the word \u201crevolutionary\u201d by looking at female role models and subversives from the last century who stood up for their visions and ideals and continue to stand for them today. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The event will feature a cocktail demonstration with<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Desert Door Sotol<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>(a limited number of cocktail kits will be available for viewers to follow along from home) and one of its several events features a conversation with the minds behind Notes from the Bathroom Line: A Conversation with the Funniest Women in Comedy,<\/em> an anthology about some of the world\u2019s leading female comedians. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The online festival will offer book clubs, groups of friends, and classes the opportunity to chat privately among themselves during an event. There\u2019s also a \u201cnetworking\u201d capability to mimic the in-person festival, where attendees can meet one another and talk about which events they\u2019re attending and enjoying. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>

The festival\u2019s singular fundraiser, the Book App\u00e9tit Literary Feast featuring novelist Amor Towles, has been rescheduled to April 8, 2021, and will also be held online.
