The Evangelical Christian Publishers Association has announced the winners of the <\/span><\/span><\/span>Christy Awards<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span>, which “honor the year’s best in Christian fiction.” Becky Wade of Dallas won Best Contemporary Romance for <\/span><\/span><\/span>Falling for You<\/span><\/span><\/em> <\/a><\/span> (Bethany House). <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ernest J. Gaines Award<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lot: Stories<\/em> <\/a><\/span>(Riverhead Books) by Houston\u2019s Bryan Washington has won the $15,000 2019 <\/span>Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, the award recognizes “outstanding work from promising African-American fiction writers” and honors Ernest J. Gaines. The award is in its 13th year. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The judges said that Lot<\/em>, a collection of short stories, is “set in the city of Houston, particularly its East End. The narrator is a young man who often doesn’t feel at home in his hometown and keenly watches others as they desperately struggle or thrive.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

American Book Fest Awards<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

American Book Fest<\/span><\/a> has announced the winners and finalists of The 2019 Best Book Awards<\/span><\/a>. More than four hundred winners and finalists were announced in more than ninety categories. Awards were presented for titles published in 2017-2019. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of American Book Fest, said this year\u2019s contest yielded more than two thousand entries from mainstream and independent publishers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Scott Semegran\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>To Squeeze a Prairie Dog: An American Novel<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/a><\/span>, was selected as the winner for Adult Fiction for the 2019 <\/span><\/span><\/span>Texas Author Project<\/span><\/span><\/a>, a collaboration <\/span><\/span><\/span>with<\/span><\/span><\/span> Library Journal, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em>IngramSpark, and Biblioboard.
