Mac Barnett headlines at Books Alive! 10th Annual Children\u2019s Book Celebration at the <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Houston Public Library on May 18, 2019.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The tenth annual Books Alive! Children\u2019s Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2019, beginning at 12 p.m. at the <\/span><\/span>Houston Public Library<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u2019s Barbara Bush Literacy Plaza located at 500 McKinney Street. Families are invited to enjoy a day of free activities including author presentations, performances, interactive demonstrations, prizes, games, and more. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The featured author at the tenth annual festival is Mac Barnett<\/a>. Barnett is a New York Times<\/em>-bestselling author of stories for children. His books, including Triangle<\/em>, Count the Monkeys<\/em>, Battle Bunny<\/em>, and his latest series, Mac B. Kid Spy and The Terrible Two<\/em>, have sold more than one million copies in the United States and have been translated into more than thirty languages. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

His picture books include two Caldecott-Honor-winning collaborations with Jon Klassen: Sam & Dave Dig a Hole<\/em>, which also won the E.B White Read-Aloud Award, and Extra Yarn<\/em>, which won both the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award. Leo: A Ghost Story<\/em>, illustrated by Christian Robinson, and The Skunk<\/em>, illustrated by Patrick McDonnell, were named two of the Ten Best Illustrated Books of 2015 by The New York Times<\/em>. Mac\u2019s novels include the Brixton Brothers mysteries and The Terrible Two series.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

From 12:00 to 1:15 p.m., there will be a large group talk and presentation with Mac Barnett, followed by book sales and signing in the gallery area. Books are provided by Blue Willow Bookshop<\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Activities, games, and crafts will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
