100W Corsicana, an international artists and writers residency based in Corsicana, Texas, has announced the recipients of its 2019 residencies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Now in its fifth year (and with a growing number of applicants), 100W selected fewer residents for the 2019 sessions, allowing individual artists and writers more time to use the organization\u2019s writing and art studios, according to Glass Tire<\/em>. In a recent statement, 100W explained that along with the importance of time, projects that necessitated large workspaces were paid particular attention, and that applicants \u201cseeking [a] small-town, rural American, Texan atmosphere\u201d were strongly considered.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Writers selected for the 2019 100W Corsicana residency include: Kerri Arsenault (Roxbury, CT), Lauren Embrey (Dallas, TX), Kendra Greene (Dallas, TX), Pamela Neal (Corsicana, TX), Lucas Schaefer (Austin, TX), and Esther Pearl Watson (Sierra Madre, CA).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Artists selected for the 2019 100W Corsicana residency include: Trey Burns (Dallas, TX), Patricia Fernandez (Los Angeles, CA), Alex Lukas (Pittsburgh, PA), Nicholas Moenich (New York, NY), Edison Penafiel (Sunrise, FL), Everest Pipkin (Pittsburgh, PA), Sophie Treppendahl (Richmond, VA), Amanda Valdez (New York, NY), Michelle Weinberg (New York, NY), and Sarah Boyts Yoder (Charlottesville, VA).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Applications for 2020 residencies will open in April 2019 for artists and writers seeking fully-funded, partially-funded, and unfunded studio residencies.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the 100 West website, the organization grants artists and writers residencies to create work in a historic building repurposed for studio space. Large scale, light flooded rooms are provided alongside complete living accommodations and wood shop access to produce work in two or three dimension, installation, or writing. Ongoing architectural preservation backdrops contemporary studio practices. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Writer’s Studio is a 400 square-foot room located on the third floor and includes: extra-long twin bed, work table, desk, chairs, wardrobe, private bath with clawfoot tub, and spiral staircase to the rooftop. The International Order of the Odd Fellows Fraternity responsible for this building’s 1898 construction, congregated in this antechamber before entering the Encampment Hall for private meetings and ceremonies complete with costumed performances. 100W has repurposed the 2400 square-foot Encampment hall for private artist-in-residence studio space. Note that the third floor is shared by only two residents, one artist and one writer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 100W community extends across the street from the building with two private live-work studios used by a 100W Collective artist and writer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Once per week residents can expect an organized studio visit. Occasionally 100W invites guest artists, writers, directors, and curators to expand the dialogue. Dinners are hosted seasonally to share the building and work created there. 100W invites guests to Corsicana to tour the studios, meet the residents and their work, and connect over meals prepared and served by the 100W Collective.
