Poems About Our First Ladies<\/span> by <span>Marilyn Singer<\/span> and illustrated by <span>Nancy Carpenter<\/span> (Disney\/Hyperion, $17.99 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-41\">The poem about Lady Bird Johnson, who is featured on the cover, deals with beautification: \u201cShe loved things that flew. She loved things that grew.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-44\">Barbara Pierce Bush, Singer writes, \u201cMade fun of her weight, her age, her looks. Strongly believed in the power of books.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-47\">The verse about Laura Lane Welch Bush notes that she loved libraries and books and promoted family literacy while in office, as did her mother-in-law.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-50\">Every First Lady, from Martha Dandridge Curtis Washington to Melania Knauss Trump is portrayed in verse as well as in a biographical summary at the end of the book.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-54\"><span id=\"u436352\"><span id=\"u436353\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/barton%2c%20what%20do%20you%20do%20with%20a%20voice%20like%20that_cover%20sm216x243.jpg\"  id=\"u436353_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"u435232-64\"><span>Barbara Jordan: <\/span>Acclaimed Austin children\u2019s author <span>Chris Barton<\/span> reflects on the life of the late Barbara Jordan in his new picture book, <span>What Do You Do With a Voice Like That?
